Newspaper articles
This week in Computing 7M and 7S learned how to use columns in Microsoft Word. To practise this they made their own newpaper article. The stories were lots of fun!
Those who finished their work promptly were able to use an online Newspaper generator at http://www.fodey.com/generators/newspaper/snippet.asp .

Brainstorming online!
Today we will be going to https://bubbl.us and creating a mindmap each. Your topic has to be something to do with learning and computers.
Topic ideas:
You may create your own login, or use mine which I'll write up on the board.
Once you have made a mind map, please post the link to it as a comment to this blog post, so we can all admire them.
Topic ideas:
- Ways to stay safe online
- All the different things you can use computers for
- Ways to use computers and phones at school
- Other ideas, but check them with Miss Ronald first, please!

Typing pre-test
Hi 7M,
Today we are going to do some typing speed tests, to see how fast and accurately we can type.
The faster we get, the more efficient we will be when working on the computer in later life. If we get really good, we will be able to 'touch type' - type without looking at our hands.
There are some typing test sites we will test out at:
We will spend the first part of the period trying these out and checking that they work well at school, and then we will all use the same site to test our typing speed.
Please comment with your name and typing speed, as well as which site you used, and how well it worked!

Cyberbullying
1.
What happened that made Joe feel bad?
2.
How did he fix it in the end?
3.
What did his friends do when Joe was being
bullied?
4.
What could Joe’s other friends have done that would
have helped?
5.
Why do you think all the other kids joined in?

Preventing Cyber-Bullying
In year 7 computing this week we watched a movie called ‘At a Distance – standing up to
cyberbullying.’ This showed a girl being bullied via cell-phone and
chat-room, and how it made her feel. It also showed how a bystander – another
child at her school - helped her by checking that she was OK, and telling an
adult what was going on.
After the movie please leave a comment on this blog post, showing what you learned from
the movie by answering the following questions:
- What made Emma upset?
- What stopped the bullying?
- What is a bystander? Are they important?
- What could Emma have done to stop the bullying once it began?
- What could you or a friend do if you receive a bullying message on your phone or computer?
Welcome
